I am a huge advocate for student equity and will do my best to bridge the gap between students and faculty. Many improvements can be made to our institution's policies to ensure that all students' needs are met, from office hours accommodations from faculty to students to low-income assistance, with a significant emphasis on cultural and disability awareness. It is pertinent that we work as an institution to accomplish these goals to make a more equitable and welcoming environment, fostering more student engagement and making MSJC the place to be!

When I was eight, my family and I moved to this country in search of better opportunities. My mother always speaks of America as the land of milk and honey. Though we have all faced many obstacles, she continues to persist and thrive, and is always giving back to her community through community service at our local church. My mother continues to inspire me to make a change in my community, hence why I tutor in the LRC. Aside from tutoring being my job, it excites me that I am making a difference in someone’s life. My peers and I show up everyday to tutor and help guide fellow students through their educational journey. We all have our paths to take and goals to achieve, it is important to know that we are not alone as we do so. As a first gen student, whose parent dropped out of high school, it is important for me to look back on community and realize, I am not alone in my endeavors. With SGA I hope to help increase and improve student engagement and presence so that we all can find pride in our pursuit of higher education and show our pride as MSJC Eagles.

I understand the ups and downs people go through when it comes to their education. I know clubs/events like these help give those students a sense of community and bring out the best in them. I want to be apart of that!

MSJC offers an amazing campus environment, built on core values such as inclusivity, celebration of heritage and authenticity. As Senator of Public Relations, I vow to ensure MSJC is creatively and, most importantly, accurately represented to the student body and incoming students, to the best of my abilities.

Nakiah Knell

As someone who is a part of multiple marginalized groups, I have always had a passion for equity. Being a social justice and sociology major makes it, so I am always intentionally learning the most effective ways to create an environment that prioritizes those who too often go underrepresented and overlooked. Throughout the year I plan to gain insight on the desires of different groups here at MSJC and use make that to make our school a place where the students and faculty are celebrated, heard, and supported.

Micaela Gonzalez Bartolo

I aspire to represent all communities on our campus. Our cultura is vital to each one of us, and it is important to promote equality and cultural diversity. Students should vote for me or any candidate they feel can represent student equity & cultural affairs because it represents our communities and culture. It is important to understand the challenges students face due to a lack of belonging in their own community. At MSJC, I feel a sense of belonging in my Hispanic community, and there are a lot of people who welcome everyone from different communities and cultures.

I am very loud—not just metaphorically but literally. With my loud voice, I can speak for those who want change and those who want to be heard, but most importantly, I could be MSJC students' Spokesperson.
