Business Major Balances Racing Career

If there's one word that best describes MSJC Business Major Maddie Wedeking, it's 鈥渕otivated.鈥�
The Temecula resident makes the most out of every day, balancing her full-time college commitments with her life as a professional utility terrain vehicle (UTV) off-road racer.
Wedeking, 19, joined the racing circuit while attending Temecula Valley High School four years ago and kicked off the 2021 season this month (January) with an outstanding second-place finish in the Nugget 鈥�250,鈥� a race that covers nearly 250 miles of open desert in Pahrump, Nevada.
After she graduates from MSJC in 2022, she plans to continue her business education at a university. In addition to continuing her racing career, she would like to be a production manager for a manufacturing company.
鈥淚t's been a dream of mine to race off-road,鈥� Wedeking said. 鈥淭he fact that I've only been racing for four years and I have made it this far is something I'm very proud of. Every day, I'm learning more that will hopefully help me be able to continue racing for years to come.鈥�
MSJC has helped Wedeking with her racing program.
鈥淚t has taught me how to multitask school, work and racing,鈥� she said. 鈥淥ne of the most important parts of racing is the business aspect of it. That plays a huge role in what races to attend, what sponsors to choose, what products to buy. So MSJC has helped me have a better understanding of the business side of my racing program.鈥�
She has some great advice for current and future MSJC Eagles.
鈥淢y main advice is to always challenge yourself,鈥� she said. 鈥淒on't ever underestimate what you are capable of. There's 24 hours in a day, make every moment count!鈥�
