MSJC's Tonya Burke Appointed General Member of IELI and Co-Chair of IEDRC

Tonya Burke was appointed general member of the Inland Empire Labor Institute and co-chair of the Contract and Education/Economic Development Committee of the Inland Empire Desert Regional Consortium.

We are pleased to announce that Tonya Burke, MSJC's Director of Apprenticeship & Work-Based Learning, has been appointed as a Board Member for the Inland Empire Labor Institute (IELI) and voted as the Co-Chair of the Contract and Education/Economic Development Committee of the Inland Empire Desert Regional Consortium (IEDRC)

Tonya expressed her profound honor and excitement regarding these appointments, "These roles align perfectly with my passion for education and economic development. I am thrilled to work alongside my co-chair, John Wilson, and the committee to drive meaningful progress. I see these appointments not just as a professional achievement but as a chance to make a lasting impact on our community and beyond." She is eager to build on her predecessors' strong foundation and make a lasting impact on the community.

Her goals for these roles include enhancing collaboration between educational institutions, businesses, and community organizations, innovating program offerings, and expanding the reach and impact of contract education initiatives. Tonya also aims to foster economic growth, promote best practices, secure funding and resources, and develop future leaders within the IELI and IEDRC.

Tonya Burke is a seasoned leader with nearly three decades of experience in education, workforce development, and economic advancement. She joined MSJC in Spring 2023 as the Director of Apprenticeship and Work-based Learning. Before her tenure at MSJC, Tonya served in critical roles at the Department of Rehabilitation and the California Workforce Development Board. Her academic background includes a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. Tonya also has experience in public service as a former City Council member in Perris, California.
