Potential Delays in Financial Aid Disbursements
8/15/2024
Dear Students,
We are excited to welcome you to the Fall term! It is sure to be a wonderful year, but not without its challenges.
We want to inform you about a recent development regarding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that may impact the timing of your financial aid disbursement.
The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) announced that colleges will not be able to submit "batch corrections" for financial aid records this year. This change comes as part of an ongoing overhaul of the FAFSA process, including the delay of the 2024-25 application that the DOE just released in December 2023.
What this means for you:
- Unfortunately, these issues have caused delays, glitches, and processing errors that may affect the timely distribution of financial aid for some students.
- If you have submitted a FAFSA with errors or need to make corrections due to changes in your financial situation, such as a change in income or dependency status, the process may take longer than usual.
- The Financial Aid Office has shifted additional resources to process these files, which may result in longer wait times when reaching out by phone or email.
What you can do:
- Check your student email and account regularly to ensure there are no issues with your application.
- Plan for potential fund delays and explore alternative options for managing your expenses in the short term.
We understand the additional stress this may cause and are committed to supporting you through these challenges. Our Financial Aid Office is here to help you navigate this situation and answer any questions you may have.
